Tefco is actively seeking contract machining work to utilise excess capacity on our CNC equipment.
The business has been established for over sixteen years, principally involved in the design and manufacture of Bearing Housings, machining of castings and other general engineering activities.
We also utilise the 30 years of Conveyor components design and construction experience of our senior management to offer design and manufacture of conveyor pulleys, rigid couplings, drive bases, brake components and wire rope sheaves.
Over the last few years we have undertaken an extensive re-equipment program broadening our capabilities to offer larger contract CNC machining capacity to complement our traditional business.
This required we establish a new 1,800M² machine shop
on one acre of land at
We also acquired a machine shop in
We have the knowledge and equipment to do a large variety of complex CNC machining work, including large parts to 1600mm diameter and have close relationships with a number of foundries & forging companies to provide the feed materials. Our pricing is very competitive, and we offer a personalised prompt estimating service.
COMPANY PROFILE
The Tefco Group turnover in 2005-06 will be in excess
of A$12 million reflecting our rapid growth.
We employ 51 people at our two locations with 28 qualified tradesmen, 12
process workers and 11 Engineering, Management & support staff.
ENGINEERING CAPABILITY
Tefco employs a Mechanical Engineer with solid modelling, CAD and Finite Element Analysis capability to assist with component design plus jig and fixture design for machining your engineered components.
An example of our Engineering ability to machine tricky components is we have reverse engineered & solid modelled off road diff housings for a US aftermarket reseller, designing all jigs, fixtures & tools including the internal spherical machining tools to machine the diffs in Australia for export to the US.
EXPERIENCE
We have experience with machining large high volume components requiring substantial quality assurance and just in time delivery scheduling.
For example we have a 5 year agreement to machine
cast SG Iron tow bar parts for
We are a principal machine shop for Voith Railway carriage coupler components, which have substantial quality assurance, material traceability, heat treatment and testing requirements.
Tefco is also a back up machine shop for Comsteel and we machine many hundreds of their railway wheel axles and wheels each year.
We have an ongoing collaboration with the Ajax
Foundry group, and together we have exported many thousands of vehicle diff
housings to the
Our Ringwood machine shop is also a substantial contract CNC Machine shop. We have enjoyed all of Onga Pumps Australian casting machining work for over fifteen years. This contract was recently amended to include casting supply and extended for a further two years and now includes aluminium component machining.
We manufacture specialised bearing housings with
casting masses anywhere between 0.3Kg thru to 8 Tonne.
Where material supply is required we select from quality assured foundries, forge shops and steel merchants depending on the material, mass, style and batch quantities.
We liaise with our foundry engineers & pattern
maker to address all points associated with a casting and design the Pattern
& tools utilising this knowledge reducing the incidence of rejection due to
casting issues.
As an example of adding value for our customers we recently cast some
components in a modified SG iron suitable for heat treatment to improve
physical properties beyond 700Mpa with excellent elongation and notch
properties, allowing the use of castings in lieu of forgings to lower our
customer’s costs.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Manufacture is done under
our Quality Assurance system that conforms to the requirements of ISO9002.
Our normal protocol is to provide Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s) for all
machined components.
Material traceability procedures are in place where required by our clients.
Documents are maintained in the job file for later reference should it be
required.
EQUIPMENT
The major re-equipment program we have undertaken in recent years has broadened our capabilities to offer CNC machining capacity for high volume components to complement our traditional business.
Our

OTHER EQUIPMENT
Ø A big swing
Ø Another Eumach CNC Bed Mill is on order for installation in May 06 with 4000 Long x 1000 cross & 1500 vertical travel with 500 diameter rotary table & programmable Vertical to Horizontal head for genuine 5 sided machining.
Ø Various other manual lathes, mills, drills and horizontal borers, all fitted with digital measurement.
Ø We have welding and fabrication capacity and specialise in
TIG & MIG welding of steel and stainless steel components to support our
machining capabilities.
We have automatic sub arc welding equipment, which together with our large vertical
and horizontal welding rotators allows us to do both internal and external
pulley welds very efficiently.
Ø We are installing a new gas fired stress relieving oven 4200 long x 2600 high x 2600 wide in June 2006 which will improve our efficiency by reducing our reliance on contractors.
